As I walked in to get my coffee I saw it there staring back at me
I could swear it was calling my name and saying ‘eat me Leigh, eat me, I’m delicious’
This is the dilemma I was faced with last Friday getting my Friday morning coffee and I got a glimpse of the sumptuous looking chocolate brownie on display on the counter
And instantly I thought ummmm I want that
That would be delicious with my coffee
That ever happen to you?
Where you weren’t intending to have something but then you see it and want it?
Or you’re trying to be good but then get tempted?
It’s hard isn’t it?
Like you’re genuinely trying to make better choices but it feels like there’s constantly food everywhere
And sometimes it’s purely just because old habits die hard
The bar or biscuit with the tea or coffee
The chocolate in the evenings
The emotional or comfort eating
Work colleagues bringing in stuff to the office that tempts you
Whatever it is, it can be tough to resist and I struggle with it too
Especially at the moment when I’m trying to get in my best shape for holidays
But I have two secret tricks up my sleeve that I use in these types of situations
These Two ways make it much easier to resist
The first is this...
Ask yourself this question in the moment:
What do I really want ?
This forces the logical part of your brain to kick into gear at the critical time
Because although that temptation might seem like what you want right now
When you ask yourself what you really want...?
The answer will usually be more along the lines of...
To feel better about myself
To feel more comfortable in my clothes
To feel healthier and more energetic
To set a better example for my children
To be slim and toned
To not feel self conscious about my body
And reminding yourself of that in the moment of temptation makes it a lot easier to say no.
The second part of this is to plan your favourite treats into your week
(I help my members do it so that they can have them without harming their results)
And by having your favourite treat planned in it means you have something to look foreword to and don’t feel deprived
So that in moments of temptation during g the day it makes it easier to resist as you know you’ve got your favourite treat waiting for you
Simple, powerful, and extremely effective
And this is exactly the type of advice I share with my members in shape up on a daily basis
So that they can feel more confident and more comfortable in their clothes
Without feeling restricted or giving up their favourite foods
And if that sounds like something you need?
