The HARSH TRUTH About Self Control

There’s no easy way to tell you this 


The real secret to self control may not be what you want to hear


But


It’s what you need to hear 


No 1 person naturally has better self control than another


That’s a LIE we tell ourselves to feel better about our actions 


Many people would ‘think’ that I’ve got great self control


However....


... I don’t really have better self control 


I just design my environment so that I don’t have to use it 


If I was in the pub every weekend? 


I’d drink


If I kept foxes cookies or kit Kat chunkies in the House ?


I’d fucking eat them 


If my food wasn’t planned or prepped?


I’d be in macdonalds or the chipper 


Whether you like it or not self control is a choice 


But most people CHOOSE to tell themselves a lie about it 


Every single person enjoys the fuck out of high calorie, high sugar, high fat foods


Every single person LOVES getting pissed sometimes 


And every single person will struggle with self control when put in tempting situations with these types of things 


The difference between someone with the best self control is that they need to use it the least 


They just don’t put themselves in situations that require it as much


What do you expect is going to happen if you’re constantly putting yourself in situations that require willpower and self control?????


It’s easier to AVOID temptation than to RESIST it 


People with more self control only have more self control because they don’t put themselves into positions where they need to rely on fucking  self control all the bloody time 


Disciplined people are better at setting up their environment and lives so that it doesn’t require heroic willpower or self control 


When it comes to self control we often tell ourselves we lack it


Or that others are just born with more 


That’s BOLLOCKS 


and the only person you’re hurting by believing that crap is yourself  


It’s not easier for someone else or harder for you


We’re all hardwired the exact same 


The uncomfortable truth is that some people just manage it better 



Self control comes down to:


CONTROLLING WHAT YOU CAN CONTROL


Stop making  excuses for yourself or playing the victim 


This is your body and your health 


You don’t lack self control 


Your just avoiding taking  responsibility for it 


It’s an easy way to let yourself off the hook saying ‘I just don’t have any willpower’


The reality is that you’re just not taking control of the elements you can to get more self control



And not setting yourself up to succeed 


We buy things to have in the house in case someone comes round, then we eat it


Guess what?


You’re really buying it for yourself than. Stop fuckibg buying it


If you have a friend that every time you hang out together you go on a two day bender...


stop meeting up with them every fucking weekend 


If everyday you end up buying a chicken fillet roll, crisps, and a coke at lunch, bring your own bloody lunch or at least decide in advance what you’ll buy in the shop so that you’re not relying on pure willpower 


Self control is about the choices you make 


To get better at self control... 


... make choices that make it easier to have it


Make choices in advance that mean you require it less 


SIMPLE 


Use your common sense 


Stop putting yourself in situations where your self control is going to be constantly bloody tested 


It’s a skill, a habit, an environment thing, it takes practise 


It’s about actually practising using it 


Most people just cave and say I’ll do better next time 


But all you’re doing is teaching yourself to give in and bullshit yourself 


The ONLY way to get better at something is to actually FUCKING DO IT


self control is no different 


It starts with engineering your environment to be conducive to your goals 


Planning 


Deciding in advance 


Removing temptations 


Creating an environment that matches your goals


Actually having goals you’re working towards 


If your environment conflicts you’ll always struggle with self control 


The next part of mastering self control is this: 


It  requires you to ACT on it 


Like most things


 it’s the small choices and decisions that add up and self control is a prime example of this 


If the not the ultimate example 


You get better at it by using it on the small decisions daily that require self control 


Make your environment match your goals 


Control what you can control so that you’ve to use it as little as possible 


Practise using it on small choices frequently 


And Remember it’s a CHOICE 


You can CHOOSE to work on it


OR


You can CHOOSE not to


It’s up to you
